Phoenix v Dinnington

Dinnington made the short hop over to Brinsworth, Rotherham to take on Phoenix FC in the 1st round of the League Cup.

A wet afternoon ensued but no danger of the game being called off.

Dinnington got off to the perfect start after some good work down the left hand and the ball fell to the feet of Joe Byron a couple yards out who finished to give Dinno a 2nd minute lead. A ball through was left by everyone, I assume to go for a Phoenix goal kick but Sam Foulds was alert and took the loose ball, come on to his right foot and buried the ball in to bottom left corner before heading home his second of the afternoon from a corner kick.

HT: Phoenix 0 - Dinnington Town 3

The second half was pretty much the same, Dinnington looking the more threatening and an a rocket of a strike from Max Glaves made it four after crashing in off the underside of the bar. Sam Foulds found himself in the sin bin after his protests to the referee after he believed he was hauled down while through on goal. Jamie Hopkin had a free kick well saved after it was heading to the keepers left hand side. The fifth and final goal came with the last kick of the game after a Mitch Ward released Josh Baxter who calmly lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper.
A good afternoon all round for the boys which leave Tom Hague and Gary Eades with some tough choices before the next game at home to Clay Cross on Friday night.
