Despair at the death for Dinno.

A Point on the Road

An afternoon where Dinno came in to the game on the back of six straight wins and one where the run came to an end, still a point earned but on the whole a difficult afternoon, one that could've been much worse but for some poor finishing and a couple of top drawer saves from Branchy.

The first half was a laboured affair, a slow start yet again and far too many loose balls were the order of
the day and it was a fairly frustrating affair with the yellows struggling to anything together. The opening quarter of an hour was very sloppy but take nothing away from the hosts, they were making it difficult for Dinno.
The first real chance of the game fell to Jordan Turner but he saw his effort saved and a follow up blocked before a weak header was gathered by the Kiveton keeper. Kiveton were stopping Dinnington playing with the yellows struggling to get down the sides and in behind and the frustration was clearly showing despite the best efforts of skipper Brad Hanson to get the boys going to step it up a notch or two and really press the home side.
Dinno won themselves a free kick in a decent area and the ball was clipped in and a headed effort was put over the top, the best chance of the game to be fair. Not long after Dinno found themselves down to ten temporarily as Jordan Turner was sinbinned for arguing with the referee after he felt he wasn't the decisions he thought he deserved. As the half progressed it was pretty much the same old story, neither team were doing anything of note with the ball, Dinno still sloppy and lacking the final ball when it mattered. Eventually Dinno did take the lead, Joe Byron nodding home from a free kick to give the yellows the advantage.

Some defensive shenanigans could've have Dinno's undoing but a misguided back pass gifted Kivo a corner and not too long after Branchy was called in to action to make a fine stop to keep Dinno one up, Brad Sedgwick did very well battling with a defender and breaking free before flashing one across goal to which Turner just couldn't get a boot to. Not too long before half time Brad Hanson lost the ball on halfway and Kivo broke but luckily the finish was poor from the Kiveton man and his shot ran harmlessly wide.

HALF TIME.

Kiveton Miners Welfare 0 - 1 Dinno

The second half got underway and it followed pretty much in the same fashion as the first half. Loose balls and a moments of sloppiness, both sides still struggling to play football but as it was Kivo found themselves back on level terms, a free kick conceded just outside the Dinno area was fired home just inside Branchy's right hand post, he was unlucky not to keep it out. Still Dinno toiled on what was becoming more and more frustrating for the yellows and a couple of changes ensued. On came Danny Cain to add another attacker along with Liam Bryan and Jordan Turner.
Brad Hanson picked up the ball and ran at the Kivo before hitting one goalwards which the keeper spilled and Danny Cain was there to follow it in and restore the lead for Dinno.

Dinno were looking better with couple of chances following but were caught again as Kiveton countered and might have levelled the game again but for an outstanding defensive block sending the ball high over the top. Not too long after Dinno were awarded on indirect free kick after a back pass which was ultimately closed down with a ten man wall in the way.
Kiveton were looking for the equaliser again and Branchy once again being the saviour keeping out an effort bound for top corner and out for a corner. Kiveton did have the ball in the back of the net but this time it was ruled offside to the dismay of the home side. Dinno did have a couple more chances, Liam Bryan intercepting a ball out from the back and beating a couple of defenders but his effort was saved down low, Danny Cain had a header over the top and tried his luck from just outside the area which also was over the top.

The real flashpoint of the game came in the dying minutes of the game, a ball down the right was chased down by Jordan Turner who collected the loose ball before play was called back as the ball had apparently run out of play, Turner disagreed and made his feelings quite clear on the matter, he hadn't learnt from the first half episode and this time Turner wouldn't finish the game.
Kiveton pressed for the remaining minutes and a ball in to the Dinno box resulted in a Kiveton penalty. The Kiveton man going down from an alleged push and the referee pointed straight to the spot, ultimately the penalty was put away to the top right and Branchy went the wrong way.

A bitter one to take drawing the game at the death in that manner but the boys have to regroup and improve for the trip to Newark Town in midweek.

Yet again thank you to the travelling supporters who turned out today

Up the Dinno!!
